[edit]

When I went through GG as Baldhead, the ending mentioned that after his disappearance, there were rumors of a doctor with godlike powers. I thought to myself, "... with a paper bag over his head." :D Yar Kramer 02:54, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Heh. Yeah. Digital Watches 06:23, 26 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Wackiest idea lately:

[edit]

"The Strange Case of Dr. Baldhead and Mr. Faust." ... Kinda apt, actually, except sorta in reverse, and for pretty much opposite reasons, too. --Yar Kramer 03:27, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Name

[edit]

I think his name refers to the famous Doctor Faust as well. 70.111.251.203 03:29, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conclusive Evidence?

[edit]

In GG:Dust Strikers, in May's story conversation thing, she can tell that Faust is bald. Then, another character says something like, "...Faust. Or should I say Doctor...", to which Faust replies "I gave up that name years ago."

Hmm... Lordofallkobuns 11:02, 1 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That actually happens in GGXX's story mode, too. —Yar Kramer 17:49, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Anime Reference: Hand Maid May

[edit]

In episode 2 of Hand Maid May, May has a conversation with a Android Squid named Ikariya, when he wakes up after having his A.I. Modified he has the famous conversation:

OISSU! [HELLO!] Koe ga Chiisa! [Louder!] Mou Icchou: OISSU! [Once Again: HELLO!]

Faust uses this exact quote for one of his moves. Mimeblade 03:43, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PWAB Experiment?

[edit]

In the PWAB summary for Faust in XX # Reload, it states that Faust reminds them of an old experiment that ended in failure and that if he is who they believe he is, he could be a threat. Shouldn't this be added? 207.224.11.195 00:37, 15 July 2007 (UTC)Alexplosion[reply]

The Unknown Comic

[edit]

Is there any official indication that Faust's design was based on that greatest of anonymous funnymen? Just looking at them side-by-side it seems more than coincidental, but OR and all that. ShaleZero 14:29, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gameplay Information

[edit]

The information on how players use Faust in combat does not belong on Wikipedia, and so I have removed it. See the Wikipedia guidelines for fancruft and game guides for more information. 67.163.173.8 (talk) 02:31, 2 April 2008 (UTC)Turk[reply]

    • Fair enough, but this information is still game-guide information and needs to be removed. While I understand that other game pages have this information, wikipedia guidelines do not allow gameplay information, especially with terms like "Faultless Cancel" and the like, to be used. If you believe this information to be relevant, consider posting it on GameFaqs or on a Guilty Gear wikia page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.173.8 (talk) 02:38, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • I agree that gameplay terms like "Roman Cancel" need to be avoided, but I don't think giving a general idea of how a character plays is violating policy. JuJube (talk) 03:02, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • That's exactly what it is, though. How a character plays is really only relevant to a player of the game, rather than the public at large. Saying that "Players using Faust use x strategy", even if we avoid using words like "Roman Cancel", still explains how to play that character. This is why all the strategies have been removed from the other GG character pages, as well as from the pages of characters from other games, such as Pokemon. This information is undoubtedly useful, but it isn't encyclopedic and does not belong in wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.173.8 (talk) 04:23, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
          • Well, I'm confused. Pikachu still has a list of attacks from the game, which is generally what the goal is for Gameplay sections here. Listing the important moves and what they do is encyclopedic, AFAIK JuJube (talk) 04:27, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
            • You're right about the Pikachu article--those additions were made after I stopped following the page. I invite you to look at the general list of pokemon (similar to the list of secondary GG characters). Also, look at some of the standalone character articles of the GG page, such as ABA. They give the relevant information as it relates to the character (Xatu uses psychic power, ABA uses her key), while keeping information about gameplay mechanics out of the page. Saying "Faust uses a bag that holds various weapons or items that aid him in combat" would be more acceptable than "Using 'What's this?' and double-jumping to avoid a bomb is a common way to play Faust". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.163.173.8 (talk) 04:41, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update image with -Strive- Model?

[edit]

Should we update the image for this character with their character art from Guilty Gear Strive? 2603:7000:1F00:6B91:29FE:E37A:9074:1ACE (talk) 19:46, 8 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposed changes

[edit]
  • Specific text to be added or removed: Change the infobox image to the character's render in Guilty Gear Strive
  • Reason for the change: It's the latest game the character has appeared in.
Not done: Upload the necessary file with a compatible license or a fair use rationale, and link it here for us to add. Melmann 16:48, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Number of deaths

[edit]

The article claims Faust, as Dr. Baldhead, kills "millions of people". Where did this number come from? I can't find any source that claims anything less vague than "an untold number" or "scores". Chloebangbang (talk) 06:17, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the wait, let's get this rolling.

Review

[edit]

Six GA Criteria

[edit]

1. Article is well-written. Very few typos or spelling mistakes, if any at all.

2. No OR, all info is cited in the article.

3. Broad in coverage. Covers multiple aspects of the character in significant depth.

4. Article appears neutral, and does not appear to hold a significantly negative nor positive stance on the subject.

5. Article appears stable. No major vandalism.

6. The article is illustrated with three fair use images for Faust. All three seem to have valid uses and rationales.

Lead

[edit]

-I feel the detail about the eyehole is uneeded.

-and drew reactions of being called "creepy" and "macabre" I'd shorten this to just "being called creepy and macabre by..."

Concept and design

[edit]

-Add "game" after "the final" in the first paragraph.

-" however because at the end of the preceding game, they wanted to redesign his appearance to make it clear he was on the "side of Justice" what happened at the end of the preceding game?

-The bit about the bald head shine confuses me. Does Faust take off the bag for the taunt, or is this related to Baldhead's appearance in the first game?

Appearances

[edit]

-Looks good. Sources seem cited correctly.

Critical reception

[edit]

-The GameRevolution, Destructoid, Eurogamer, and CBR sources seem trivial. The CBR one is also credited to Game Rant, for some reason. The TheGamer source on the lucky projectiles also seems rather trivial. Personally, these seem to be rather weak and more trivial mentions of the character than actual serious discussion, amounting to about a sentence or two per article of actual effective commentary. I'd either substitute these sources or just axe them entirely, though feel free to prove me wrong on any of them.

Overall

[edit]

Article looks pretty solid, but the Reception issues are pretty glaring. Will put this on hold while you work on edits. Ping me when they're done or if you feel a point here should be contested, and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Fixed all I could. Removed the Eurogamer ref, but I want to leave the others: they're smaller, but I don't feel they're trivial and do augment the related sources around them:
  • GameRevolution establishes his animations including specific ones as callouts.
  • CBR helps back up the Siliconera ref, and helps establish him as a standout amongst the game's roster.
  • A lot of the reactions to his redesign were sadly in the same vein as the Destructoid article, however I feel this adds enough with the rest to help build the tone of his new appearance for the reader alongside the image.
  • The Gamer ref defines his archetype, making it clear he's the progenitor of the concept that other characters were based off of and works with Sirlin's own discussion, which otherwise may seem like an isolated opinion instead.
Let me know if these are satisfactory reasonings.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 00:43, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe your reasonings are enough here. Definitely see your points, given a lot of these are supports for the bigger articles. In any case, with all of the other fixes, I'm happy to pass this article. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 01:32, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
