Optical disc

1.5 ... "megabyte" optical disc? Shouldn't that be gigabyte?

No, this is a second party game. Second party means that, in this case, the nintendo-liscenced f-zero series was instead leased out for amusement vision to develop under supervision from nintendo. It's the mid-way between first-party (most nintendo games) and third party games (games made entirely by external companies for the system)

"Snaking" glitch?

Through the MKDS game boards I've heard that this game has a glitch, that you can "snake" faster due a flaw in the physics engine or something like that. Could someone confirm? And add a section about it? - Hbdragon88 20:39, 11 February 2006 (UTC)

You *CANT* call it a flaw - The dedwsign of the physics engine favors high acceleration cars on power turns over high max-speed cars. And of course, high mass is the best. The result: the Snaking (or Dakou) technique. The player uses a power turn left, then right, then left, then right on a relatively broad, straight road. The result - speeds faster than most cars can achieve with boosters well before the boost becomes available.

You can consider this a DEFINITE confirmation. Read up on details on the "Cheats/Glitches" section on GameFaqs for a better description. I've personally used this ineffectively before - and seen it used VERY effectively.

Actually F-Zero is a 1st party game. It was made by Nintendo. It'd have to be made by another company like HAL Laboratories and stay with Nintendo for it to be a 2nd party. Otherwise The Legend of Zelda would then have to be a 2nd party due to the combination of Nintendo and Capcom making a few Zelda games; Oracle of Ages/Seasons, Four Swords [Adventures}, etc. F-Zero was never placed on any other gaming system let alone an arcade. Sonic Oval = Hedgehog Reference?

You mean actual hints on the circuit to the Sonic the Hedgehog series? If that's what you mean, then no. For example, there's another circuit called "Mobius Ring". This is because the circuit is a Möbius strip, however Amusement Vision could've made both of these a coincidence on purpose. Falcon 00:58, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

I know I'm a little late on the draw, here, but... To my knowledge, Amusement Vision is a Japanese studio. The name "Mobius" has never been in a single Sega of Japan/Sonic Team Sonic game, and has actually only made appearances in DiC "Sonic The Hedgehog" TV series, Archie comics, and some very old English-translation instruction manuals, so I believe we can probably safely assume that a connection is unlikely. As for the Sonic Oval, well--Who knows? I don't recall noticing any specific Sonic references or cameos, but it has been a while. --Matt S. 16:03, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

GA stuff

Hi! This is a good start, but not a "good article," yet. For one, nothing in the middle section appears to be sourced. That's a problem. There's a lot of soemwhat clunky prose of questionable relevance ("It is said to be the one of the best racing games to date. When games release too close together, one cannibalize another or each others sales. F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur 2 are perfect examples. They were essentially released at the same time. [1] It is believed F-Zero X was in the same situation with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time."), and the sources don't reference anything that isn't an online source, which is technically a violation of our reliable source guidelines. Get some printed sources, clean up the prose, and get some more referencing done, and this has a good shot of passing next time. Good luck! --badlydrawnjeff talk 00:18, 19 October 2006 (UTC).

More GA stuff

• OMG, majorly redundant lead: "Despite being ranked as one of the best futuristic racing games to date, F-Zero GX suffered in sales. This was caused because of it's close release to Soul Calibur II. When game releases are too close together, they may cannibalize each other's sales. F-Zero GX and Soul Calibur 2 are a perfect example of this since they were essentially released at the same time.
• Find more to say in the lead than just what's in the infobox.
• "As with all F-Zero games, GX is a futuristic racing game." : Complete duh sentence, and redundent to lead.
• "The game is noteworthy for its intense action, high level of difficulty and for its very high sense of speed - which is accomplished partly by the visuals and detail in the tracks." : But how does that accomplish it?
• Review section is heavily bias towards English reviews. Find out what Famitsu gave it to counteract this.
• I don't much like the tracks being listed under Circuits. It feels to listy.

Comment: Its a racing game after all - then what should be done? What F-Zero X has?

• Needs more categories. For instance, missing any cat from Category:Computer and video game genres.

Comment: They were moved to prevent redundancy. Most now cover the series as a whole.

• "F-Zero" is not always in italics, and needs to be.

After having gone over this article both today and yesterday, I've decided to pass this article under the criteria listed under WP:GA?. A few suggestions for further improvement:

• To cement criteria 4.b, include any criticisms of the game. I had a look through google and the reviews and couldn't find any consistent major criticisms that urgently need referred to here, so have given the benefit of the doubt on this point.
• Remove "In fact" from the 3rd paragraph in the lead - it is not required.
• After thoroughly looking through references, the statement, "The game is noteworthy for its visuals, intense action, high level of difficulty and for its very high sense of speed", is verified - however try and link it to a specific reference or references, and place them beside the statement.
• F-Zero should be italicized in the "Techniques" section.
• Another image may help illustrate the article, for example, a pilot choice screen, or something illustrative of a point in the article.
