What makes a river "major"? Is there any sort of rough guideline we should follow, in terms of what rivers should not be included? Or would it be better to remove the word "major" altogether?Visviva 14:44, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)
All rivers should be included, but the list will remain far from complete for a long time, and we should aim for a complete listing of "major" rivers first. It would be very cool to have a "hierarchical"/topological listing, linking rivers by tributaries! dab 14:15, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I'm not sure whether there is a viable way of organizing this list but one major way is by where their mouths are (e.g., flow into the Arctic Ocean, flow into the Black Sea, etc.). Then organize in some geographic way (e.g., east to west for the Arctic ocean, clockwise for the Black Sea). Short description indicating the areas they (including tributaries) drain. Tributaries should not be listed unless they are very significant in their own right. So for instance one might have the [[Caspian Sea] then list the Volga River, Ural River, Sefīd-Rūd, Atrek, Terek (river), and Kura (river) (I think this is the clockwise order). On the other hand we could work on using the categories appropriately. --Erp (talk) 06:41, 19 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
