Quick history lesson:

The Battle of Aboukir Bay is the same as The Battle of the Nile.

The Battle of Aboukir was a land battle in the same campaign, by the French General Murat against Turkish resistance near Acre. Not at all the same thing.

I don't have time at the moment to write a proper article for this. Anyone reading this is invited to fill in the blank. -- Paul Drye

Hm, my mistake. Probably because in Polish we have only one battle of Aboukir (bitwa o Abukir), related to naval battle, and that name had a lot of tradition. I don't know how land battle is called in Polish history tradition. Anyway, just exaplnation why i was mistaken. szopen

The spelling has been changed from Aboukir to Abukir. The latter conforms with more recent English transliterations from Arabic. Aboukir reflects what would be a usual transliteration into French because the French "u" has a different pronunciation. -Eclecticology
