[edit]Was gay marriage legalized by a bill or court ruling?

30 January 2003?
[edit]Is the date given in this article for the legalisation of same-sex marriage in Belgium, namely January 30, 2003, correct? The article on gay marriage on the Dutch wikipedia says that it was legalised by the law of February 13, 2003 and that same-sex marriages are possible since June 1, 2003.--Ganchelkas 18:01, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
- I found why the article gives 30 January 2003 as the date of legalisation. That is the date on which the bill was adopted by the Chamber of Representatives and sent to the King.--Ganchelkas 10:58, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
Merger with Civil unions in Belgium
[edit]It is proposed to merge the articles on Same-sex marriage in Belgium and Civil unions in Belgium into a new (to be created) article called Same-sex marriage and civil unions in Belgium. In order not to prejudge the result of the discussion I haven't created this article yet. Other suggestions for the name of the destination article are welcome.
This is part of a general proposed merger of the "Same-sex marriage in..." with the "Civil unions in..." series. Any general points can be discussed in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject LGBT studies#"Same-sex marriage in ..." v. "Civil unions in the ...".
In essence these articles deal with the same subject matter and unified articles could deal more comprehensively with the topic and avoid unnecessary repetition. Caveat lector 17:54, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
- I'm inclined to agree, especially as neither article contains much details and information. The subject matter isn't entirely the same (heterosexual couples can also apply for statutory cohabition, in fact you don't even have to be a couple), but I think it would be better to have one good article rather than two short articles.--Ganchelkas 10:27, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose merger. If cohabitation applies to heterosexual couples also, having a redirect from a general page about cohabitation to a page that mainly deals with LGBT issues is misleading to readers. 140.247.243.169 22:19, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Current number of same-sex marriages and partnerships in Belgium - http://statbel.fgov.be/figures/d22_fr.asp#3 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.12.171.218 (talk) 21:50, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
Christian democrats
[edit]The article states "As in the Netherlands (the first country to legalise same-sex marriage), this was achieved when the Christian Democrats were not in power"
Now, while that statement is correct I think it could be misleading. In fact the parties that were in power did not find a majority for the law, (mainly because of MR MP's voting against it) but the law passed anyway because the vast majority of the Flemish Christian Democrats (CD&V) supported the law from the opposition benches. Of the CD&V MP's, 3 abstained and all others voted in favor of the law. So the gay marriage law in Belgium happened because of the support of the christian democrats, whereas the current article suggests the opposite. --Lamadude (talk) 16:37, 4 August 2010 (UTC)

Statistics issue
[edit]How you got such figures in the statistics of marriages (about 2% of same-sex marriages of all marriages) while in my calculations I get about 5% of same-sex marriages of all marriages. I would be grateful if someone would figure it out — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeftDaysOff (talk • contribs) 13:36, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
