I am currently a little snowed under with thesis work, so may be slow in replying to messages on my talk page (and am currently keeping my contributions down). I will definitely get back to you if you leave a message, though.
I am a bioinformatics PhD student, but am interested in a wide range of topics including history, computer games, politics, geography, zoology, and quite a few others. I began work on the Wikipedia with the page for Pietermaritzburg, my home town. Since then, I have contributed to a variety of topics, many of them dealing with South Africa.
Between occasionally improving the flow cytometry article (close to my topic of research), I have begun tending towards an ogrish policy of creating DYK-quality articles on uncovered topics that catch my interest.
As I am reading Long Walk to Freedom, I have been inspired to do something about the generally poor state of Wikipedia articles about the struggle against Apartheid. When I have a free day or two, expect radical improvements to:
