An article in Greek with an Italian title. It's been listed on Articles needing translation since May. I therefore deleted it, and it has been undeleted because, even though it's been languishing for almost two months, this was somehow a "speedy delete" and therefore inappropriate. Do we really need to move everything that hasn't been translated into English here before deleting it? RickK 06:35, Jul 15, 2004 (UTC)

- I've been soliciting help on this. I finally got a response: "Hi jmabel, and sorry for taking long to respond, i have been busy. The article you mentioned in is dated january 1996 and it's about the release of a new book with some lectures by M. Foucault in Berkeley, about what M. Foucault describes as the outspokenness of ancient greeks. Its rather long so please consider if you want it translated. Greetings, 13:02, 22 Jun 2004 (UTC)." My own take on this is that we should probably just move what we've got to the Greek-language wikipedia, let them decide there whether anything in it is worth salvaging, and expect someday to translate back any worthwhile material. 2 things: (1) yes, articles over 2 weeks old on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English may be submitted for Vfd. The Vfd process gives us a chance to make a decision rather than one person unilaterally deleting. Yes, what you did is indeed a "speedy" delete. "Speedy" doesn't have to do with how long the article has existed, it has to do with bypassing the deletion process. (2) given the prior discussion (now reproduced here) there is good reason to think this is a worthwhile article, written in Greek. No idea why it has an Italian title. I think we should probably transwiki to the Greek-language wikipedia, notify someone appropriate there, and let them decide if it's worth salvaging. It doesn't appear to be a copyvio, and it does appear to be a solid piece of writing that shouldn't be thrown away. -- Jmabel 06:57, Jul 15, 2004 (UTC)

I'm Greek and I could translate this without difficulty -- but frankly this doesn't feel so encyclopedical: it feels like a review/commentary on a philosopher's views on this topic, the "outspokenness" and its ethical considerations. That would be great. Even if the wikipedia isn't where it belongs, then assuming that there are no copyright issues one of our sister projects would probably want it. Well, I translated it. Rather wanky text I felt, and babbling too much over the same points. It will probably end up getting deleted (unless radically edited) for different reasons than the ones that first brought it to this page. :-) Still Foucault's article already had an link going for "parrhesia" which this article here describes in length, and perhaps we can make it work with some very strong editing. Now that we know what it is, I suggest we just merge it (along with this discussion) into the talk page for Michel Foucault and let those who are working on tht article decide if there is useful material here that can be merged into an article.
