- 1923 – Canadian National Railway gains control of the Grand Trunk Railway.[1]
- 1947 – The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad inaugurates the Cincinnatian passenger train between Baltimore, and Cincinnati.
- 1949 – David Laney, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Amtrak 2003-2007,[2] is born.
- 1970 – Passenger service on what will become the RER A line in Paris is inaugurated between La Défense and Charles de Gaulle – Étoile (pictured) stations.
