pronunciation
[edit]Segmental pronunciation is almost certainly thel-zi-noh-ee, but the placement of the stress is unknown: Either thel-zin'-oh-ee or thel'-zi-noh'-ee. --kwami 03:04, 7 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- Based on Arsinoë (Αρσινόη) ar-sin'-oh-ee, Theonoë (Θεονόη) thee-on'-oh-ee, etc., I'd expect Thelxinoë (Θελξινόη) to also have the stress on the antepenult: thel-zin'-oh-ee. --kwami 01:27, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I'm taking the question mark out. The pronunciation has not been confirmed, but standard stress rules would place the stress on the antepenult, and I expect this name is too rare to be irregular. --kwami 01:56, 8 Apr 2005 (UTC)
- I get pronouncing the x as a z, but isn't the h also silent? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.10.7.131 (talk) 20:40, 26 January 2015 (UTC)
- It's not a /z/ but a /ks/ in English, as the x is not initial. (I see the article is correct now.) A silent h would produce the aspirated /th/ that was the ancient pronunciation of theta, but the common English pronunciation of words borrowed from Greek would use /θ/ as we have.
