[edit]Hmmm... shouldn't the article on the Polish Army be about the Polish Army (Wojsko Polskie) and not about the Polish Land Forces (Wojska Lądowe RP)? Halibutt 12:01, Apr 2, 2005 (UTC)
- No. "Army" specifically means LAND forces. Tomer TALK July 7, 2005 18:29 (UTC)
- No. Polish Army (or Wojsko Polskie in Polish) should have its own article and this one should simply be its historical sub-article, much like other articles of the whole project, all listed in Template:Polish Army. Halibutt 07:55, July 16, 2005 (UTC)

This topic redirects here. It is a broader topic than history of the Polish Army and likely we need to split some stuff from here into that article, which should become independent. Thoughts? @Marcelus @GizzyCatBella @Cukrakalnis who recently commented at Talk:Military_history_of_Poland_during_World_War_II#Name_of_this_article Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:04, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- Agree to the splitting. IMO, considering that the Polish Armed Forces were founded in 1918, the scope and main focus of the article History of the Polish Army should be the Polish Army from 1918 onwards (although a paragraph-length overview of the military history of Poland before 1918 would still be relevant in my view).
- Regarding the pre-1918 material, I think it would be better placed in the separate article (not redirect) Military history of Poland. I looked at articles specifically concerning the military history of European states, and the following are the most expansive, just to give an idea - Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden. The article Military history of Russia also gives ideas about choosing a totally different layout and basically just making it into a disambiguation page for more specialized articles. Cukrakalnis (talk) 20:21, 25 February 2023 (UTC)
- I'll also note that the interwiki to pl version of this article is a lowercase Historia wojska polskiego, i.e. the history of the Polish army, not Army. Arguably the pl article could use a rename for clarity. But yes, Polish Army, capitalized, generally refers to the 1918+ formation (hence, redirect Polish Army->Polish Armed Forces). There were, of course, various Polish military formations before that, including the Army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, but those indeed would benefit from splitting.
- Or perhaps, we are just overthinking this, and this article just needs to be renamed? This article could be recreated based on the content from History_of_the_Polish_Army#Second_Polish_Republic_and_World_War_II_(1918–1945)+ or on the pl:Siły_Zbrojne_Rzeczypospolitej_Polskiej#Historia_Sił_Zbrojnych_Rzeczypospolitej_Polskiej (I'll note that the pl wiki does not have a dedicated article on the history of the modern Polish Army, althought the topic is notable).
- What I mean is that History of the Polish Army is a subtopic of the Military history of Poland, so some content should remain in both articles. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:27, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

Yes, indeed.- Renaming this article like you suggested makes sense actually. Then, the "History of the Polish Army" would just be a redirect to the post-1918 section of the article "Military history of Poland". Seems like the best solution that brings this article in line with other comparable articles on en.wiki. Cukrakalnis (talk) 19:11, 27 February 2023 (UTC)
