Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional people known by one name (0th nomination)
List of fictional people known by one name was proposed for deletion. This page is an archive of the discussion about the proposed deletion. This page is no longer live. Further comments should be made on the article's talk page rather than here so that this page is preserved as an historic record. The result of the debate was to keep the article.
A list without any purpose, not to mention being somewhat subjective and confusing in scope, despite the warning at the top of the page. Delete. Ian Pugh 04:29, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Weak keep. Silly, yes, but not damaging either. Wyllium 04:53, 2004 Nov 13 (UTC)- WHERE DID ALL THESE LISTS COME FROM SUDDENLY?!?! Delete Forgotmytea 11:33, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- After thinking about it better, I'm changing my vote to delete. List is simply to pointless. Wyllium 04:56, 2004 Nov 13 (UTC)
- Delete. Seems like a rather pointless list. --Idont havaname 05:18, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep, I see no harm done by this, and it could turn out useful for various searching and research. As a list it is encyclopedic enough, even if about an obscure topic. Also why remove a page several people seem to have enjoyed contributing too? Seriously now, settle down with the deltion sprees on articles that do no harm to Wikipedia. —siroχo 09:10, Nov 13, 2004 (UTC)
- Though I certainly don't mean to go on "deletion sprees," as a dedicated member of this community I try to stick by my principles. I listed this for VfD because of certain entries on its talk page, which specifically cites an item in What Wikipedia is not, that being item 11 of what Wikipedia entries are not. As Kenwarren says, none of these characters are actually famous for only having one name. (Fry's full name is Philip J. Fry, but this fact is not touted as something special.) This is something I should have cited from the start; my apologies. Ian Pugh 18:44, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete - Really cute idea, but simply not worth of inclusion. ClockworkTroll 09:16, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep - list is usable and not inherently impossible to create/maintain. Not "pointless", but obscure. NiceGuyJoey 13:52, Nov 13, 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Useful and interesting. The fact that some people ignore the instructions means that it should be edited, not deleted. -[[User:Aranel|Aranel ("Sarah")]] 15:25, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Or at least get rid of the red links--I consider red links to topics likely to be VfD'd newcomer biting. Niteowlneils 18:45, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Weak keep. It does offer actual information, however insignificant. As someone has bothered to create it and it's fair enough to have, I say keep. Besides, it takes my fancy. My only reservation is what might happen to it, it could end up encompassing most fictional people. zoney ♣ talk 23:34, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Would be genuinely useful to a study of personal names, perhaps a small but certainly an intriguing and valid field of inquiry. (And those known by one name in real life would form a notable enough subset of celebrities; why not those from notable fiction?) Samaritan 08:18, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Another worthless list. Only rarely are they worth keeping. --Improv 15:32, 14 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Wikipedia is not paper. This list is noteworthy and holds practical applications. GRider 07:25, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep, good encyclopedic resource. --Pgreenfinch 13:51, 15 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep. Not the silliest list, and no harm done. Mark Richards 00:00, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Keep, useful. —Florescentbulb 02:16, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
This list as it stands is utterly meaningless. delete. ~~Noah Peters
- Keep. Intrigue 04:13, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Delete This list could contain everyone and therefore will never be complete. Glaurung 08:54, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
