Talk:November 19, 2004 disturbance at The Palace of Auburn Hills
This should DEFINITLEY have it's own article. I personally prefer "Palace Revolt" or something like that. It's definitley a watershed moment in American sports.
This isn't an encyclopedia article, it's a news story. How's about merging it into the NBA, Pacers, or Pistons article? --Calton 00:37, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Serious incidents of this nature usually get their own articles. This sort of thing is extraordinary, especially by American standards. I originally tried stuffing it all into violence in sports, but I soon realized there is just too much information. --Rupertslander 00:56, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- It should definitely be its own article. This event is likely to change the NBA as we know it. That said, I really hate this article name. You would have no idea from the title (unless you just knew what happened) that this was a fight during a basketball game. Can't we just call it 2004 Indiana Pacers-Detroit Pistons fight or something? I'm willing to entertain ideas... RADICALBENDER★ 02:07, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Personally, I don't really care what the article is called. I thought fight and brawl might be seen as playing down the incident (since basketball's "fights" and "brawls" are normally confined to the players), but I thought riot might be perceived as harsh terminology by some. By comparison, disturbance is a relatively broad and inoffensive term. If there is consensus to change it, then by all means do so. The problem with 2004 Indiana Pacers-Detroit Pistons fight is that might suggest the incident to be solely among the players, which was clearly not the case here. --Rupertslander 04:06, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- How about Altercation during the November 19, 2004 Indiana Pacers-Detroit Pistons NBA game? That was pulled from the title of Stern's press release (but with the date and "NBA" added). It's not any shorter, but it's a bit more clearer as to what the event was. We should probably start sorting out redirects, too... RADICALBENDER★ 18:08, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- The incident has been given the moniker "The Malice at the Palace" by ESPN. Perhaps that could be part of the title?
- "The Malice at the Palace" never really caught on though. It was used for a few days just like "Basket-brawl". I think disturbance does not really convey the severity of the event though. What about something along the lines of "November 19, 2004 Player-Fan Brawl at The Palace of Auburn Hills"?Ewhite77 18:58, Dec 1, 2004 (UTC)

- I think the title is fine the way it is. My only nitpick is that the "D" in "disturbance" should be capitalized.
The chair thrower
[edit]Though I don't remember his name off-hand, they may have identified the chair thrower... Ranma9617 06:35, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Fan who was punched by Jermaine O'neal
[edit]The fan Oneal punched was not the fan who had been punched previously by Artest, as suggested in the article, but a friend of said fan who charged onto the court at the same time.
