[edit]Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.
Now, I've heard both ways, but some people from the area told me it was actually pronounced "HOAR EE" county, not "ORR EE", but there was an unofficial campaign to have it changed to the latter pronunciation due to the double meaning of the first. Harksaw 01:20, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
- Some people say "HOAR-EE" because they don't know any better, so sometimes you will hear it pronounced that way. I made the mistake when I first moved to South Carolina. But I can tell you with 100% certainty that it's "OAR-EE". MoodyGroove 12:20, 24 July 2007 (UTC)MoodyGroove
- I'm going to change the IPA, assuming that you meant it at least rhymes with "hoary". kwami —Preceding comment was added at 02:55, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Harksaw, you do understand that the "double-meaning" of the word "hoary" is "white or gray with age" (http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/hoary) ?Terry Thorgaard (talk) 00:15, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Horry is not part the South Carolina Lowcountry
[edit]According to the Lowcountry#Definition "Although along the coast, Horry County, home to Myrtle Beach and Conway is very rarely included in the definition and is more often considered to be its own region (The Grand Strand) or closer geographically to the Pee Dee Region of the state." Corruptions Allegations
[edit]How has the fact that the section on allegations of corruptions contains NO sources at all escaped people? I have no opinion on the issues raised politically, mainly because Horry Co. politics does not really interest me, but I AM a firm believer that when a fact is presented, it needs to have a source referenced. And in order to be neutral, as Wikipedia wants, if you're going to present the corruption, then the good things the county does also needs to be presented as well; otherwise, there is a lack of neutrality. In all honesty, what county/town/state/federal government entity hasn't been accused of corruption? What purpose is served by mentioning those allegations? I admit, I had not heard anything about the allegations but then I seldom watch the news or read the paper here, so my opinion on the allegations and who did what has no bearing on my comments here. - You are right. I removed this section. It is uncited and controversial. Not sure that it really rises to the level of notability to include here anyway. Possibly, but since it deals with WP:BLP issues, I removed it. Thank you for your interest. -- JoannaSerah (talk) 20:59, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
