See talk at Category_talk:Canadian_ski_resorts regarding Seymour's categorization as a "ski resort". Thanks! --Ds13 15:10, 2005 May 27 (UTC)

Is This Appropriate?

[edit]

Hey wait a minute here.

This article is almost entirely about the Mount Seymour *Ski Resort*. It isn't really about the *real* Mount Seymour (as a geographical feature) at all, other than the incidental references.

I'm thinking that this article should be renamed to "Mount Seymour Ski Resort". Then I could put in a new "Mount Seymour" article which would describe the mountain itself.

Any objections?

no objections here.

Nope

Is there enough material for two articles? If not, see what you think of my rewrite of the first two paragraphs. I tried to put a focus on the mountain first, and then continue with the ski area. (If this works for you, we could then add in sections about hiking, back-country, etc. to keep it from being a shill for the company.) --Ckatz 07:14, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hiking/skiing risks

[edit]

Because of its trail network and steep-sided topography, Seymour is well-known as the location of innumerable missing-persons/search-and-rescue efforts; not suggesting they shoudl all be listed, but an advisory section on the dangers of hiking off-trail and skiing out-of-bounds should defintely be included; without being alarmist, that is.Skookum1 (talk) 15:09, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Sleeping Maiden", "Sleeping Princess"

[edit]

This is a nickname for the ridge as seen from the Gastown/Downtown area; cites abound, though I don't have any handy.Skookum1 (talk) 15:09, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Separation of geographic and ski area articles

[edit]

Noting that Mount Seymour Provincial Park is a separate article, and already having to correct teh double-coords from the ski area infobx vs the mountain infobox, and given the separation of mountain and ski area articles elsewhere (e.g. Whistler Blackcomb vs. Whistler Mountain & Blackcomb Mountain, Big White Ski Resort vs Big White Mountain etc.) - remember taht some ski areas are not named for the mountain they're on, e.g. Powder King, Kicking Horse (which isn't even on the Kicking Horse River/basin)... this also makes categorization easier and helps with giving room for expansion of the two different kinds of content; it may seem odd to have three different articles for what to most people is teh same place, but really it's not; the ski area is its own entity, and isn't actually at the peak of Mt Seymour; the Fannin Range is really the ridge that most people call Mount Seymour, or think of Mount Seymour as being (so really there's four articles). This is pretty standard, actually, though it may seem redundant; in proper encyclopedic catgorization and WikiProejct terms, it's not, though....Skookum1 (talk) 15:22, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Need to change title from Mount Seymour to Mt Seymour Ski Area

[edit]

The title of the article needs to change from Mount Seymour (referring to the mountain and provincial park) to Mt Seymour Ski Area as that is what the content is referring to but I am unable to do it. Can anybody help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtseymourresorts (talkcontribs) 16:33, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This article is about the mountain. There was a relatively recent edit by an anonymous IP editor, which I just undid, where "ski area" was added to the first sentence of the lead which was causing this confusion. It is fixed now. Air.light (talk) 17:05, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

----Proposed Changes----

[edit]

In full disclosure I am a paid employee of Mt Seymour Resort. As mentioned in the previous posts above, the article confuses the difference between the provincial park and the ski resort which is not helpful for either guests of the provincial park or the ski resort. Please see the page on Cypress Mountain Ski Area as an example of seperation. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cypress_Mountain_Ski_Area

The image is not of the Mount Seymour Ski Resort but from 'Third Pump' in the Provincial Park adding to further confusion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mtseymourresorts (talkcontribs) 17:21, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It may be suitable for the article "Mt Seymour ski area" to be created but there's a conflict of interest with you creating this page. Certainly this page here should not be changed into a page about the ski area. Air.light (talk) 17:34, 25 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
