Summary
[edit]This cover of I, Robot illustrates the story "Runaround", the first to list all Three Laws of Robotics.
Fair use for Three Laws of Robotics
[edit]Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics are one of his most enduring contributions to science fiction and have even had an effect upon the way present-day technologists think about robot design. This image, the cover to a now out-of-print edition of I, Robot, illustrates the first scene in Asimov's corpus which uses all three Laws, though earlier stories presumed robots had various built-in safeguards. As such, this cover depicts an important moment in the history of science fiction, and it is therefore of considerable scholarly utility.
No free or public-domain images illustrating the story "Runaround", the book I, Robot or the Three Laws have been located. Since this image would be available to a viewer free of cost (for example, on a bookstore shelf), and since the edition it accompanies is no longer in print, the presence of this image in the Three Laws article does not impair the copyright holder's ability to profit from the work.
